About Us
Formed in the spring of 2012, Whalen Architecture PLLC opened based on the principals of Frank Llyod Wright's quote, "I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen." Coupled with our passion for architecture, the Whalen Architecture staff strives to make sure all project goals are met and all clients are treated with professionalism from initial consultation to completion.
We are NCARB certified, LEED Accredited Professionals, and are licensed to practice architecture in New York, Connecticut, and Utah.
Staff
Stephen A. Whalen, RA, LEED AP
Principal
Stephen has been in the architecture field for over 25 years. He graduated from the New York Institute of Technology in 1994 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. After graduation, Stephen worked for several firms where he gained extensive experience with both residential and commercial projects. He has been a registered architect since 2004 and a LEED Accredited Professional since 2007.
Stephen is a former adjunct instructor for Dutchess Community College where he taught AutoCAD, Revit, and structural technology classes.
Stephen is also a member of several boards and committees including the Executive Board of Directors for the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce and a board member for Sparrow's Nest.
Paul Varanouskas, RA
Senior Architect
Paul is a nationally certified architect with over 35 years of experience in the architecture, design, and construction industry. He is the former principal of A. Paul Varanouskas, Architect. He's certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He has also served in leadership roles for various not for profit organizations in the Hudson Valley as well as taught Architectural Design, Construction and Computer Aided Design at Parsons School of Design, and at Dutchess Community College. Paul is a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology at Old Westbury with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.
Bonnie Whalen
Office Manager
Bonnie graduated from the New York Institute of Technology in 1993 with a B.A. in Interior Design. She has worked for several companies where she gained considerable customer service and office management experience. Bonnie has been a part of the Whalen Architecture team since day 1 and is responsible for the office accounting, human resources, and day to day office operations.
Bonnie is also passionate about giving back to the community and is in charge of Whalen Architecture's involvement with local non for profit organizations.
Joseph DeMarco
Project Manager
Joe has been with the Whalen Architecture team since October of 2020. Joseph has been working in the architecture field for 7 years. He is a 2015 graduate of Dutchess Community College where he received his A.A.S in Construction Technology Management.
Joe's responsibilities include working with the principal architects, preparing construction drawings, researching architectural products, and overseeing the assistant project managers.
Lauren Bower
Project Manager
Lauren joined the Whalen Architecture team in the summer of 2022. Lauren graduated in May of 2022 with her B.F.A. in Interior Design from Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. She is currently working towards becoming an NCIDQ Certified Interior Designer. Lauren's responsibilities include preparing construction drawings, working with the principal architects, and selection of materials for interior design projects.
Trevor Luiso
Assistant Project Manager
Trevor joined the Whalen Architecture team in the fall of 2022. Trevor has been in the architecture field for 3 years with a background in construction. He graduated in 2020 from Dutchess Community College with an A.A.S. in Architecture Technologies. Trevor's responsibilities include assisting the project managers with construction drawings, field measuring, and project coordination.
Elizabeth FitzPatrick
Client Services
Elizabeth joined the Whalen Architecture team in December of 2022. Elizabeth has more than 10 years of account management and administrative support experience. She spent many years working for a national home inspection company that specializes in corporate relocation. Elizabeth's responsibilities include client interaction, running office meetings, and general office operations.
Mocha
Chief Barkitect
Mocha joined the Whalen Architecture team in 2021. She is in charge of greeting everyone at the door, being a part of every meeting she can, and she always lets us know when we have a delivery from UPS, FedEx, and Amazon!
